My Workplace is called VCA All About Pets Animals Care it's animal hospital. It's a medium size business its located in union city its filled with animals and it basically looks like a little hospital but instead with people with animals.  I believe about 18 people work there or less my workplace employs people that have an interest in animals and that went to school for veterinary or college. But they also have volunteers and interns which also work there. Most of the people that work there went to a 4 year college and my workplace serves animals which include dogs, cats, birds and small exotic animals. The strengths of my workplace i have a clear understanding what the employees do and i get to help them out and understand everything. Some weakness is that on tuesdays there's not much to so since there's not much business.

My main mentor is named Jennifer Perry shes is the hospital manager. She manages the whole hospital which include running the whole hospital, making sure everything is going well, employees doing there job, working with employees and customers etc. Most of the other people that work at the hospital are all a bit of my mentors since they help me around and tell me what i could do around the workplace. Some of there names include Alvin, Dawn, Leticia, Ashley, Kelly and Jesse. They are all assistance's they clean, feed the animals, assist the doctor, file paper work, arranging appointment's, act of nursing etc. Well Jennifer's typical day is run errands and do paper work, computer work and check around the hospital. The assistance's typical day looks like making sure the hospital is clean, walking dogs, doing laundry, clean cages, give shots to dogs, help out with surgery, paper work, science work, computer work etc. They became interested in their field from there interest in animals and there past experience with animals/pets they went to school for there field a 4 year college.

One my my responsibility's I have at my internship is making sure that everything is basically in order. For example like I have to make sure that everything is ready to be used and everything is clean and the laundry is all done and everything is put into there correct places. Another responsibility I have at my internship I have is getting to observe what is going around at my internship. Like if a surgery is going on I have to observe whats exactly is going on or also just simple things like the small work on the side by the tech's. Some tasks that I do each week is watching lab work on sick animals and learning new techniques on working with animals. Having a lot of animals come in I get to see the different work that happens on each animal. Every week I also learn a lot of new things mainly on the science work that is being done at my internship. Like last time i was at my internship I got to observe how they use the blood of sick animal to determine whats wrong with the animals. I learned a lot of the equipment being used at my internship. Well a regular day at my Internship is clients coming in with there dogs/cats and the Tech's and doctors check what might be wrong with the dog/cat and they take blood samples etc to find what might be wrong with it. Also they have appointment's with the animals and they might have to take blood or give them medications. We also have animals that stayed at my internship which they have to do further things to them like surgery. Like On my first day I got to see a surgery happen on a dog which was very cool. And about every Tuesday I got to see lab work and the employees getting to give shots to the animals. But the days are all pretty unpredictable I never know what might happen when i go to my internship.

I'm thinking about having my project based on advertisement. So I’m going to have advertisements for my workplace. So I’m going to make handouts and flyers which I will give out to people with pets so they could come to my internship to improve their business. I came up with this project by observing what was going on at my internship by that I found out that every time I came to my Internship there weren’t that much business when I came so I decided I wanted to change that. I'm actually really excited to do my project because I really want to check out the results of my project. And I'm really hoping to leave a impact of my internship. Well I’m really hoping to start on my project this week or next week where I can meet up with my mentor and tell her if the project is a good idea and what exactly what should I put on the flyers and handouts. Then I'm hoping to start on the flyers the following Tuesday on my co- interns computer when then I could get a layout for the flyers and handouts. After finishing the flyers and handouts I will show it to the staff and my mentor to see if its okay and check what could be added. After that I'm hoping to start having my project in action where I start passing out the handouts and flyers to help gain more business. I'm hoping for a big success for this project It will be fun.

Well on November 8th at my internship I first took a dog out on a walk so it could use the bathroom. At the clinic they usually take the dogs out very often so it could have a break and use the bathroom. Then i gathered all the laundry and startled the laundry and put all the towels and blankets in the correct places. Laundry is really important because they have to make sure that everything at the clinic is clean and neat. After we helped organize some files and throw away work that our mentor gave to us since shes the manger. Then Mr. Wild came to talk to us and our mentor about the upcoming events and projects. After we startled to start our project and get ideas of our project and how it all going to work out. At the end we were able to help out with the medication by making orders for clients and organize the medications. My mentor and I were able to talk about my project and if she agrees with it we also were able to get a little started on it. I was able to to start a outline of my project and get certain objectives that need to be done to get my project done. Now i got a ideas how to start it and what I'm going to have to use for my project. I also worked out with my mentor when are some possible times during my internship i could work on my project. And what are some information that I could put on the fryers which is my project that would help bring more business to my internship.

A leadership skill  I use a lot at my internship would be complete projects effectively. I use this leadership frequently at my internship since i'm given projects/tasks at my internship which I have to complete effectively. Like for example today I was given the project to clean out the kennels of the house cats. Which I had to complete effectively by being able to get the right equipment to use for cleaning the kennels. I effectively completed my project today by finishing, cleaning all the kennels with the help of a friend and put everything back where it was.  I believe i'm doing this leadership skill pretty well on the fact that I complete all my projects that are given to me and I try my hardest to complete them effectively. Like for example a project that I had to do was to get information on the vaccines on felines and make a cheat cheat on when they should get there vaccines. I believe I completed it effectively since i tried my best to complete it and even though it was a bit challenging I tried my best to complete it. But a improvement I could make is finding projects on my own to complete effectively since at times i may have no projects to do I could guide myself to projects i could do without being told. This leadership skill helps me in my work since its helps me complete items effectively. Which helps on the quality of work if you complete things effectively rather than completing things ineffectively there's such a big positive difference. I believe that my mentor uses communicating powerfully  much more than the other leadership skills. Since her job is a whole lot of communicating to the employees since shes the manger. She also communicates a lot to people outside of the hospital she usually speaks to everyone about upcoming items coming up.  And knowing that sometimes shes out at conferences or at meetings she does a lot of communicating to other people at confrences/meetings.

Well something I learned is that I really like this field as a career and it could be a possible career I would like to look into next year. Some challenges I faced while working at my internship was the fact I will not know how to do something but I came to overcome it by asking the employees how should I do it I asked for help. I helped me learn a lot by them teaching me things I didnt know how to do before like how to restrain a dog while there giving them shots. I learned a lot of the passion that comes with tis career like the fact that you have to a have great passion for animals for this field. Like sometimes there might be a lot of challenges with the animals like they might misbehave but at the end they have the patients to control the dog. Well my WLE helps me see if this field will intrest me in the new future when i'm looking for possible careers I would like next year. Well now I know that this career is not as simple as I though it was. At first I thought it was such a easy career taking care of animals but now being here I learned that this career is a lot of work and you have  to have a passion towards animals to work here. I also now know that science is a very big factor in this career its a big skill that you need to know for this career. If someone asked me why WLE was important I would say how this gives us a big expirence that we wouldent learn at school so this helps us have a big embrace on the outside world and what were going to have to do in a few years. WLE will affect the choices I make in the future by helping me pick a career I will love in the future like for this example I might come back to the career next year and decide this might be my proffession.

Before getting my WLE I had to first investigate what I wanted to do so I was looking for places which I have a interest in. After that I looked up possible places could intern at and I wrote down there number and there address. Then we prepared on what to say when calling places asking if we could intern there. Then we called places and at that time we learning how to act  when we have a internship like how to properly eat. Also at that time we were working on our resumes and our cover letter. The most effective way to get hired I think is to show the people that you are very interested and really will love working at the workplace. I think from working at a workplace is that professionalism is a big responsibility and that you have to rely a lot on other people (coworkers). Also I think that’s there’s a big difference in between going to school then working at a workplace. There’s many different things you have to aware of working like you can't just make up things you do wrong because in some cases it be someone’s life on the line. I know now working is very serious it many different ways.

Today I got to feed the pets that were boarding at the clinic, cleaned their kennels, take them on walk and play with them. I also ran a few errands like settle some paper work and dump out unneeded items at the clinic. Later I got to observe the doctor fix a birds leg, and observed a tech put a cast on a cat. Later I filled the shelves with the correct prices of the pet foods and then got to clean up some surgery equipment. I improved as an intern by being able to get use to my routines and knowing what I need to do at my internship without being asked to. Another area where I improved is that now I’m more comfortable being here at my internship like now I'm able to ask for help and question and make conversations with the employees. Because at first I was a bit shy but now I Improved on communicating at my workplace and being more comfortable. What makes my workplace so great is that everyone here is very friendly and funny and they really love animals. Also what’s great is that they always have animals here they have 4 cats that live here. Which is awesome because the fact that animal clinics might say that the love animals but this clinic actually means it by having pets that live here. Its just great having to come here with friendly employees and animals. But a downfall is at times there might not be much to do because on Tuesdays they don't have much business then they do on the other days.

Some final thoughts that I have on my internship. Is the fact how much I love having my internship experience here at VCA All About Pets. This experience was purely great on how it was a big and new experience that I never had before I never thought I would have such a cool internship. It was great because I learned so much new things that I would never learn by sitting in class. It gave me a look on the working world that’s coming in my future. Another final thought I had on my internship is how much I enjoy working with animals and how I might look in to it in the future. Having my internship here gave me a look on some possible careers I might look in to next year. And I’m hoping to look further in this field later. This experience will help me next year because next year I’m going to look for a workplace where I’m going to love to intern at like here at VCA . Also its going to help me look for a place where I have a interest at because so I can see how its like at the workplace so I can think about it my senior year where I’m looking at what kind of degree I want to have what I want to major in and what college I should go to help me reach me to the goals I want succeed in when I’m a adult.
